The Department of Community and Family Health seeks to improve the health status of the family through an interdisciplinary approach of providing preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care services within the community.

The Department's mission includes education, research and service to enhance the health promotion and disease and disability prevention status of individuals, families and communities. Its programs assist individuals in developing leadership in the health disciplines that meets the needs of a diverse population. The Department emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration so that public health responsibilities can be carried out in the context of diverse settings.

Dr. Mahan is Keynote Speaker. Dr. Charles S. Mahan gave the keynote address to the national meeting of The Coalition to Improve Maternity Services in Orlando March 7. The title was: "The Perfect Storm: Time for Change in U.S. Maternity Care." At the same meeting he also received the Humeneck Award for promoting normal birth.

 

Dr. Karen Liller Attends Phil Kappa Phi Initiation Ceremony. The Phi Kappa Phi initiation ceremony was held Sunday in the Marshall Center Ballroom at the University. Dr. Liller serves on the Executive Council and was in attendance at the event. This year there was an outstanding group of Student-Scholars being initiated, including graduate students from the College of Public Health. Students inducted into Phi Kappa Phi receive certificates that acknowledge their academic success and membership in the Society. On Sunday, USF Provost and Senior Vice-President, Dr. Ralph Wilcox, was recognized as an Honorary Member of Phi Kappa Phi. Also, President Genshaft, who is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, attended and helped distribute the certificates. Congratulations to all the public health students who have been inducted into this prestigious Society and thanks to those students who attended on Sunday.
